• The flash can be set to operate in AUTO but it will fire only when it is in the up position. You have to manually move a release button to allow the flash to pop up. Actually this can be an advantage in situations where flash photography is not allowed (museums, theaters, etc.) By keeping the flash secured within the camera body, you can be assured that you will not violate any NO-FLASH rules. I have another camera that resets its flash option after each shot so I have had the accidental flash firing when I did not want it.
