The Nexstar 8se comes with an alt-az mount with legs just under 2 inches in diameter. If an equatorial mount is needed, the Celestron 8 telescope will work perfectly on the AVX mount, which does have 2-inch legs. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No German Equatorial Mount (GEM). This comes with an Alt-Azimuth mount. It does not include a wedge for equatorial alignment either. Good enough for amazing visual astronomy and very short-exposure photography, but if you want astrophotography you'll need to upgrade the tripod with a wedge or replace it with a GEM tripod like the Advanced VX.
