you can do this but you can use a server power supply and only use 1 instead of 2 in parallel 
there are cheap server supplies that go all the way to 1500w on the 12v rail for 50.00 or less

Maybe, but it will surely void the heck out of your warranty. I would shoot for a single unit option, like a server style power supply, if you can.

only way to find out is try it but you will have to have the jumper to switch the power on. good luck and oh i would deff use an older 2 power supplies that way if you 
smoke them hey they were used.
