No built-in speakers, the high def sound is the capability. It will be able to process sounds at that level for your auditory enjoyment. I hope that helps! We got some super cheap speakers from five below that have been working just fine when we're not on a headset.

If your monitor does not have built in speakers, you may need to purchase speakers or a headset separately in order to receive sound.
