“I've only had it about a week, but have noticed some uncomfortably high CPU temps with the CoolerMaster cooler mine has installed. With an ambient air temp of 23C, the CPU temp averages 55C while idle and regularly exceeds 80C under load. Is this normal?”

Perfectly normal, these CPU have a heat rating of about 110 c. Plus it won’t ever let itself get that hot, you will experience a safe shutdown before the heat does any damage. I would definitely adjust the fan curve as the stock one is trash, this is what I use 30c-35% 50c-50% 60c-60% 65c-70% 78c-85%. Hope this helps.
