In the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter. There should be zero performance hit. If you choose to upgrade, you'll probably have to replace both no matter what. I wouldn't buy extra RAM through Dell anyway.

It’s likely a way for Dell to save money on the lower cost versions. However, when upgrading RAM, it is best to use 2 sticks of the same size and speed to be able to use them in dual-channel.
