“Is the HDMI CEC function on this receiver compatible with/will it work with Sony Bravia Sync enabled TVs? In other words, can I control the volume of this receiver thought a Sony Bravia TV?”

Yes if the TV is on you can control volume with TV remote and also Amp remote when TV is off. AVR HDMI maybe necessary I am not sure.
