Hello, The best setting for sound is for the receiver to be set to match what is being received from the source. For example, if the receiver has a Dolby True HD feed coming from the TV or Blu-ray player, the receiver will need to be set to Direct mode for Dolby True HD - this can be achieved by pressing the 'Pure' button on the remote for the selection of 'Direct' mode. Your video source's digital audio output will need to be set to 'Bitstream' for surround sound, or 'PCM' for straight stereo (as found in the audio portion of it's menu).
