Yes, the phone mounts to the bottom remote that comes with the drone. Once unfolded the remote has a place to insert your device, and also plug it in so that it can communicate with the remote.

Yes, its how the app connects to and controls the drone. The drone controller also has different cables you can switch between depending on the phone, like iphone lighting or the more common USB C
