The difference is what is measured. Peak amperage is the maximum current the unit can push out for a very short period of time. Cranking amps measures the current the unit can sustain for 30 seconds, at 32 degrees, F. FYI, COLD cranking amps is essentially the same as Cranking amps, except it is measured at 0 degrees, F.
