“What is a lightening connection? And one time I had a charger that would not charge unless the phone was atleast 20% charged, it drove me crazy. It that a problem with this cable?”

• Lightning cables are specific to Apple products. The problem you described sounds unusual, might have been a problem with that charger or maybe the phone? I don't have that problem with this charging cable.

• I believe a lightning cable charges your device faster, and no your phone does not have to be charged in order for the cable to work.
