“I have a MacBook Air 13" Early 2015. I have one monitor's hdmi cable already in the DisplayPort to the side but am looking to add another monitor and have a USB port open. Would this work to plug in an HDMI cable and then plug in the USB cable to the mac?”

This is for Display Port to HDMI. You need a USB to HDMI cable if you want to plug it into a USB port. You should also note whether the USB is 2.0 or 3.0 (blue) as this would help determine which one you need.
