Hi Mini. Thank you for your interest in the AM10 Humidifier. Cleaning procedures must be routinely followed to ensure that the humidifier continues to operate efficiently. Cleaning regimes are designed to help prevent the build up of scale within the machine, which will be more prominent in hard water areas. We recommend using a mixture of citric acid and water to clean the machine once a week. The cleaning procedure is outline in the user guide. Best Wishes, Krystal Dyson Customer Service
