• Hi there, this is Jenifer with Dyson. The Gen1 HP10 filter is designed to be replaced every 12 months. That's because over time, filters can get clogged with pollutants, and even let unpleasant odors back into the room. The machine will alert you when it’s time to change filters. • No. The filters usually last around one year. The machine will let you know when the filter needs to be changed. You need to purchase a back up filter before your year is up. It really depends on how much you use the purifier fan,
