If you have it on high, next to where the smoke is coming from, it should help. You have to remember smoke is pretty much lighter than air and the size of the unit is maybe 3 feet. Plus another thing to consider is where the filter is, it sits on the floor, but it does clean the entire room (at least mine). I leave mine on 24/7 and so far, so good. Hope this helps.

The Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan will remove 99.97% of allergens, bacteria, mold spores, room odors, gasses and pollen from the air that you breathe. Our purifier fan has the ability to detect particulates larger than one micron in the air using two new sensors. Particles are tiny fragments such as pollen and smoke that are lightweight enough to be airborne and are therefore easy to inhale. The Dyson Pure Cool™ Link purifier fan captures these by trapping them in the glass borosilicate fibers of its HEPA filter. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
