Can this fan be used without the filter installed? null

Hello Rob, this is Kelly with Dyson. If you were to use the Dyson TP01 Pure Cool Tower air purifier and fan without the filter, you would not be receiving the benefits of purified air, and your machine would not fully operate as intended. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
