Hello Chris, This is Miella from Dyson. The TP01 will provide the cooling fan when the filter does need replacing, but the airflow can be affected, and the purification aspect will be altered. To ensure the machine is performing at the optimal level, we recommend replacing the filter when the machine alerts you of changing. Hope this helps! Miella Dyson Customer Support
