The unit does not run hot, and the electrical cord does not overheat. This should be a primary concern when selecting this type of product. Follow its instructions, do not use past the suggested time duration and use common sense. When done, unplug it and never use unattended. Just assume anything electrical runs a risk of fire and apply responsible handling. IMHO it is safe but safe ownership is just as important.
