Yes you have to hold the trigger but it seems very comfortable

We chose a light-touch trigger over an on/off switch to ensure that battery life is never wasted by letting the machine run when it's not in active use. Yes you have to keep holding it with your finger. Battery only lasts about 20 minutes so having it this way let’s you not waste the battery (that’s what I think at least).
