Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We are sorry to learn you're having an issue with your Dyson V8 Animal on your carpeting. Your machine features two power modes, MAX and regular power. Right out of the box, your machine will be in MAX and this will provide a boost of stronger suction. To reduce the suction power and thus increase run time, you can place the machine in to regular power at the slider switch on top of the vacuum. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
