Only the first one must be wired to router. The second one will be repeater without the need of physical connection. By the way in every kit only one have the capability to add an ethernet cable to it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your guess is mostly correct. The first/head/gateway eero will be hardwired to the internet/modem and create a wifi network. The second (or any other eero) will connect to the gateway eero, wired or wirelessly, and broadcast the same network. All the eero have a lot of hardware and software built into them to help optimize performance in this role so, in our opinion, they work better and give higher performance than a regular wifi repeater.
