You can just plug the ethernet cable directly from your current modem router combo to this eero and set it up. Make sure you will still able to connect your current modem router combo. You need to remove that SSID from all the devices you have and add new eeto wifi so all traffic will go through eero to modem/router combo.

If you leave the Cox router running it is recommended to disable the wifi on the Cox, having two devices generating wireless networks in close proximity can cause interference with each other and lower performance.

If you have done this for very long you could have purchased a router and modem of your own. I gradually progressed from a cheapo router hooked to the rental Cox modem to better and better equipment as things failed or I needed better internet speeds, Hence I got from Best Buy an Arris SB6141 Modem and a Netgear 7000 (their recommendations and with complete technical knowledge of COX.) I had spotty coverage in the house so I bought the Aero system, which needs modem but provides router wireless only, no plug in connections. It behaves like you are right next to the router wherever there is a mess node. So in my house it was wall to modem, modem to router, router to PC or wireless. I had many devices connected to my network, seurity system, Ring doorbell, lots of TV's. Even if I disconnected the old network and named the mesh netword the same as the old network and set same password, I would have to reconnect every device and test it. Your Cox box will have to in connect directly to the EERO, replace or takeover the router part. You will probably have a different network name and password and have to reconnect everything. In my case, I only had to put the first mesh box between the modem and router (old network behaves like a node.) So it became wall to modem, modem out to mess in, mesh out to router in, Now every device in the house is connected to the same credentials as before, totally painless and invisible change. I have stong signal everywhere. The only issue was two computers would not connect to my NAS (a hard drive plugged into the router.) Why? Because when they were testing things those got connected to the new (mesh network) directly. I merely reconnected them to the old, non-mesh network and all was well. Complex answer I know, but maybe it will help your techs get it going and in the long run you could avoid a Cox rental fee. Does your combo from Cox allow you to plug in a hard drive or USB to function as NAS (Network Applications Server)? You can still add nodes to extend your coverage, the mesh is great. I just don't know what the Cox box supports. You are at their mercy to get a new one is it fails. Anybody can sell you a replacement or upgraded modem or router.
