Hi E, Yes you can. We recommend refilling any expended colors as soon as possible to avoid possible issues with the print head. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.

The previous answer contradicts previous answers given to the same question by other Epson staff members. All evidence points to needing working cartridges in all slots to print in black & white since it uses a mixture of the colors to print grayscale.
