• Hello. The ET-8500 requires an ink tank to be refilled when the printer indicates that a specific color is expended. Once re-filled, printing functionality can resume. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.

• This printer is a tank, does not use cartridges. The tank can last up to a year or more and it is very visible to see how much ink is left. Besides the er 8500, i have a et 7750 and have had no trouble.
