Depends. You need to download the software and then the scans go directly to your computer or iCloud. Scanning takes longer than normal per page. I was scanning pages from a large book so the menu screen was covered. Would be nice if it was on the side, but overall it does the job. I chose this brand because the ink was cheaper, so has its little downsides, but willing to overlook those as opposed to paying triple for ink.

You can also use the Epson scan software that includes several settings to choose from, ranging from image quality to file formats.
