It's a really bright projector and will work with the lights on, depending on how far away the wall/screen is. 10' should be fine, but 20' may be pushing it with the lights on. Note: the fans on this unit are a bit noisy.

I wouldn't say it looks great, but it works with the lights on.  (It's awesome with the lights off.)

Yes.. the projector has superior illumination. It has different brightness settings. The only thing to take into consideration is that the life of the bulb will be shorter if it always is operating on full brightness. More that that is one of the best options available.
