Best value home theater projector (2024)

I firmly believe this is the best bang-for-your-buck home theater projector on the market. Fantastic image quality, staggeringly powerful brightness (even in ECO mode), and super easy to mount to the ceiling for home theater use. Only potential knocks are the fan is a little loud (less so in ECO), and its internal audio is weak, but those are non-factors if you're using passing your audio through separate audio components, which is a no-brainer. Similarly, I don't ding this for its lack of smart features, because a separate streaming or A/V device (in my case an Apple TV) is probably the only way any home theater projector should be used. Sure, if you're wealthy and want to drop thousands on a projector, you can do better, but this is perfect for my needs.

I wasn't sure what to expect with regard to brightness for an outdoor movie. I used the calculator on ProjectorCentral to calculate size and distance and get an estimate for brightness needed. We ordered a 100" fabric screen for this outdoor movie event. Other research said we needed 3000 lumens or better for outdoor use. Yesterday I set it up in the bright sun to get ready for later but really couldn't use it at all. I managed to make out some words, enough to log in to iTunes and AppleTV. About 1 hour before sunset, with brightness turned all the way up an was able to see enought to watch a show on Netflix. 30 minutes before Sunset it was actually pretty usable and you can see in the photos that the Top Gear show was generally watchable by then. 20 minutes after sunset it was GREAT! Kids started their SpiderMan movie and the picture was excellent and totally bright enough on normal settings, second photo. I'm impressed by this projector for the price though I think there are things that don't make sense. For example, you can screen mirror but it requires a special app from Epson to do that. Why not just support Chromecast like everything else, since all of the streaming apps can stream to chromecast natively? Picture quality of this project is really quite good. The built in speaker is okay, tinny.. I connected an outdoor speaker that we use for music in the yard to the project and that worked really well. The projector is easy to set up, and since all 3 feet are adjustable you can get it nice and even/level. The fan is pretty quiet.

Great projector. Crisp and colorful picture. Immense difference between picture quality of this projector and the 200 dollar one we had previously. The speaker is medicore but we use a Bose soundbar anyway so not a concern. Mounts well to the ceiling. Easy set up. Biggest regret is not buying this sooner. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality projector that doesnt completely break the bank!

Projector works great. Beautiful picture in true HD. Very bright. No problem at all with bright rooms. Be sure to run a fiber optic cable if distance is over 25feet. Pass through from receiver to HDMI input on projector worked perfect. Good buy. You won’t be disappointed. It’s not 4K. But is that really even worth it. Most people can’t tell the difference from 1080 to 4K. The throw is great. I run a 120 inch screen. And projector only needs to be 9ft out.

Very happy with my purchase. I purchased this projector to replace my 2 year old BenQ that went bad. I use my projector for my golf sim and watching sports and movies on my impact screen. The picture is much improved over my old BenQ. I hope it last longer than the old one.

So glad I chose this. I could have spent a lot more money but this was more in line with my budget. After many hours of research I purchased this one and man am I surprised at how good it is. I had it at 130 inches on a wall with no screen and only about 9 feet away from wall to projector lens and it was just like being in a theater. I'm impressed and HIGHLY recommend.

    The best 1080P can get!

I have only owned one projector before this, but it has been a few years since then. That projector was so good that it ended up only being used for Halloween displays. I have a OLED TV in my living room right now, but was looking for something bigger to watch when we have company over. I started looking at projectors, because upsizing my television would only gain 10" diagonally at a significant cost. I decided that I would try a 1080p projector because it would not replace my TV, and 4K units are twice as expensive. After a lot of research the Epson Home Cinema 1080 ended up as my first choice. Epson obviously made big changes from the 800 series projector which reviewers criticized because it had only 1 HDMI port and no zoom, in exchange for greater lumen output. This projector keeps the increased output, and adds another 100 lumens. The 1080 also gets zoom, and 2 HDMI ports. Another big plus is that it has built in WIFI. Unboxing the projector led me to a quick setup of roughly 10 minutes. I was actually shocked at the brightness of the picture, I was able to see clear sharp images projected onto a denim colored wall, in a bright room. The cooling fan while not silent , is far from distracting. I was initially dubious about the manufactures claim of a 300" image. The projector did easily reach that size, on the default brightness. The colors are well saturated, with good contrast even on the dark wall. Even fast motion appeared smooth with no blurring or edge staggering. Image correction is a breeze , with a broad range of settings on the projector and remote. One of the concerns I had about projectors was the cost of maintenance. Online prices for replacement lamps left me at ease, with lamps selling for as little as $50. I know that this review makes this projector seem perfect. I think the picture and features are fantastic for the price, but there are a couple of weak points. Unless you are using HDMI, you are stuck with RCA jacks as part of composite input for audio, or you connect your audio via a headphone jack. Choose one or the other, because the projector’s built in speaker sounds like a homemade tinfoil kazoo. I opted to use the headphone jack connected to a Yamaha sound bar, and am very satisfied with the results. If you can live with the audio limitations, this projector gets you the most 1080p bang, for any buck. The image quality and size capability of this projector cannot be beat dollar for dollar by the competition. I'm keeping mine. This is a review for the Epson Home Cinema 1080 3LCD projector that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

    Stunning Projector!

After using this projector, I’m extremely impressed! The first thing I love about this projector is how easy it was to set up out of the box. Using the included remote, it was easy to to customize the settings and adjust the projector according to my preferences. The next important feature to point out about this projector is how sleek it looks. The projector has a beautiful white appearance. I appreciate that there are buttons on the unit as well. This makes it easy to adjust my projector if my remote runs out of batteries. The next key area worth discussing is the clarity and performance of the projector itself. The projector’s picture is clean and crisp. I am able to see even the finest details on the projector’s screen. I’m also amazed at how bright the projector’s LED light is. The picture is super bright on my wall. I’ve also been quite impressed with how quickly the projector starts up and shuts off. It only takes a few seconds for the fan to get up to speed as well as gradually shut down when I want to turn it off. Another important area worth mentioning about this projector is how many devices it is compatible with. There’s plenty of ports on the back of the projector including AV slots, USB slots, HDMI ports, etc. This feature works great for plugging in an external streaming stick! Another feature that I really appreciate about this projector is the fact that there is a manufacturer-created app available on my iPhone, iPad, or MacBook that can be used to stream content wirelessly onto my projector! Using this app, I’m able to view and share pictures and websites. On the iPhone Epson projection app, I can even show live video from my phone’s camera. Overall, I’m very pleased with this projector and would highly recommend it to anyone in search of a high-quality projector that’s fit for any movie! I’ve never seen a projector with such great picture quality! This is a review for the Epson Home Cinema 1080 3LCD projector that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.
