Yes, to install this trim kit, the trim ring needs to be placed over the opening in your counter. You would then need to place the cooktop into the trim ring. Use this kit when the countertop cutout is larger than the cutout required by the cooktop’s Installation Instructions. Reduce the opening by adding wood filler strips. The cooktop trim ring will cover the opening and provide a more finished professional installation. You may want to consider consulting with a cabinet maker to see if there are any other options available for you to fill in the extra space if you choose not to remove the cooktop to have it installed.
