Yes if the wind is strong enough. This unit is electric. You would not want it outside in a snow storm. Heats about 5 or 6 feet on either side of it. Adequate for 2 people "social distancing."

This patio heater has a heating area of 120 square feet, also it has a heavy bottom, but incase the unit does fall over the patio heater is equipped with an automatic tip over protection shutoff.
