Kinda depends on your phone and alot of things. Bottom line your phone will need the Fitbit app to communicate with the phone. Each app will have different features depending on the platform (iphone,android etc) the app was programmed for. You can find on the Fitbit website which phones are ideal for it but most work fine anyway. Mine wasnt on the list works great. Buy it, try it, return it if doesnt work right.

I'm not certain about this question, but you can receive text messages from your carrier and they will display on the watch.

I get my text messages on my phone when I have Bluetooth on. I have Verizon.

Yes we were able to get it to work. Make sure you have the newest firmware
