Yes, it has a function that allows you to start a workout and then end when finished. I use the elliptical all the time. Once it syncs it shows your workout, how many calories burned, heart rate, and steps taken on the Fitbit app.

If you're using the handle bars it will track your steps and the heart rate monitor will of course do its thing as well. If you don't like to use the handle bars on the elliptical then keep your hands moving like you're walking / running for it to track the steps as its based on your hand movements.
