The black plug is a wireless dongle in case you are syncing to a PC/laptop instead of your phone. If you are using your phone, just pack the dongle away with the guide.

Please try again later.That is a USB plug that plugs into a USB port on your computer (desktop or laptop) which will synchronize the watch to the Fitbit app, keeping a record of ALL your data. It's kind of fun to go back and look at the weeks activity. This can be done with your smartphone and the Fitbit app as well. So either or or both, your choice. You do have to have the watch close enough to the computer or phone to synchronize.
