I bought versa 2 for my mom and she loved it. She only didn’t like the wrist band so I went to amazon to buy the stainless steel chain and it’s easier for them to use. The watch works fine without a smart phone. However you can set it to your phone if you like- so you can track the steps and activity level once the phone is close to the watch. The watch itself will track the numbers. I also bought one for myself and although I have it set up w my phone, I’m notorious at forgetting to bring my phone w me. The watch works without the phone near it
