I have a newer samsung phone. I assume part of it would depend on your OS software, you should check their website for the compatibility OS numbers. I think it's the last 2 available. Other than that, if your OS is fully up to date, yes, they don't have to show up, but you can decide what notifications you would like to see. Mine show up on the watch because I selected to see them. Works great.
