It shows the calories burned. It also shows the time, steps, and distance. You tap the screen to move through the displays.

Yes, the Fitbit ZIP shows you the time of day, steps taken, mileage accumulated that day and calorie burn (based on steps).

The Fitbit Zip displays Time, Steps, Miles & Calories. The calories are only from walking or running.

You can keep tapping the screen; the screen displays current time, steps taken, total distance walked, projected calories burned, and a smiley face. It's not necessary to check your phone. If you do sync to your phone you'll see some additional features you can add input for (calories eaten, ounces of water consumed), but you don't have to check your phone if you don't want to see that info.

Yes, everything appears right on the screen. You can scroll through all data (time, number of steps, distance covered, calories burned) with just a tap on the screen.
