Hi there! This Over-the-range microwave doubles as a hood offering ventilation with two fan speeds. Also, this model does allow you to adjust exhaust adaptor. I hope this information is helpful to you. ~Corletta
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The exhaust fan has 2 speeds and is helpful, but it does vent back into the kitchen if you do not use the outside vent feature. My situation didn't require using the fan to vent to the outside because i have a separate ceiling exhaust fan in the kitchen. Basically the oven comes with a vent that can be directed up if you plan to use an outside exhaust but it comes set for just venting into the kitchen and it will draw up steam etc but you will still smell the cooking odor. As to how strong the fan is to vent to the outside, I would guess it is not as strong as a dedicated ceiling exhaust fan.
