• You can use the remote just fine. However with no wifi you lose out on all the amenities this particular unit has to offer.

• You can use it without WiFi. That is only if you want to use it from your phone.

• You have three options for use: 1. Controls on unit 2. Remote control (included) 3. Down the mobile app The mobile app provided the most control. I tried the remote initially, but found that the app responded faster and more accurately than the remote.
