This is really a good question - I think that is why my old fridge failed - so when I lightened it up a bit - cleaned out the areas that were clogging circulation - the old fridge started to work again! I am still going to keep the new fridge as an adjunct - however, I will say I WILL read the directions - some of the suggestions I received I got right off the Internet. If I had just read the directions and followed them, my old fridge would not have failed.
