Hi Karen! Thank you for your inquiry. It is not recommended to put the grates in the dishwasher for cleaning. In researching, we are not showing that it is recommended to spray any products inside before cleaning. However, you want to remove any excessive spills. Any spills on the oven bottom should be wiped-up and removed before starting the self cleaning cycle. To clean, use hot, soapy water and a cloth. To ensure that you do not experience any lock matter when cleaning. It is recommended to allow the oven to cool and unlock itself before opening the door. Hope this helps! -Thanks!-
