“Is it accurate that the electric cord is only 6 1/2 inches long? If so, I don't think we can buy this model -- our nearest outlet to where the unit would go to vent out a window would be about 2-3 feet away. What to do, since no extension cord allowed?”

No - The cord looks to be about five feet long, so you should have no problem.

In researching, we were able to see the power-cord length is listed as follows: Length of Power Cord (Min./Max.) 6'/6.5'. We would recommend moving the air conditioner closer top the outlet.
