caring for cast iron is very easy. warm to hot water and a medium bristle scrubber. do not use brillo pads. do not use industrial type scrubbers. I have a cast iron cooking set handed down to the oldest child in the family for the past 75 years. every so often, take a paper towel with some vegetable oil and very gentle wipe along the surface. Do not use the stove for several hours - this is best done overnight.
