Yes it can monitor your heart rate and the distance during the activity. All data will be uploaded (Bluetooth) to an app (garmin connect) and you will be able to see the activities’ history and receive weekly reports. It don’t came pre-programed to kitesurf, but it allow you to insert and program a new activity. I did the same with soccer.

The watch will display your distance and heart rate when you are doing any sports.
