• The Forerunner 245 does not play music, you would need the music version. The air pods should pair with the music version. support.garmin.com offers FAQ's on Bluetooth compatible head phones. Debbie with Garmin

• This version of the watch does not play music or give any form of audible notifications other than beeps or chimes for various alerts. You can use it to control the music features on your smartphone or get aural alerts through the Garmin Connect app, but it's your phone you are listening to, not the watch. As such, your airpods will be paired with the phone, not this device. Garmin does offer another version of the this device, the Forerunner 245 Music, which costs an extra $50 but does allow for onboard music storage and compatibility with various streaming music services. That one will play music and give aural queues without the phone. I cannot speak for the compatibility between that model and Apple airpods.
