The instinct display allows a black on white background or a white on black background but does not have additional color options. You cannot download apps or watch faces from Garmin Connect with this model

Your only choice on the watch face are factory preset faces that are white on black or black on white. No, it is not compatible with the Garmin store.

It has multiple faces built in, and each allows you to customize which complications to show and where to show them.

The advantage to a black and white LCD screen is that it consumes  relatively no power at all compared to back-lit color LCD screens so they can remain on full time without any significant loss of battery life.  You need a backlight to see a color LCD. BLK & WHT can be read with just sunlight and just the slightest backlight at night.  The difference in power consumption is like 10,000 to 1.
