“I am interested in using this Watch for open ocean SUP Paddling, to track distance and pace, but I do not want to carry my smart phone with me. Can it be programmed and be ready to use? Would I need wireless wi-fi to program it? I am not very tech savvy.”

The Instinct Solar does have the SUP activity, so you can use it without your phone being around, it will save it to be sync'd at a later date. For more information contact us at [email protected] or visit our Support Center, https://support.garmin.com/en-US/. Thanks Jenny

As long as the GPS can find you in the ocean, then you’ll be good to go. You don’t need wireless WiFi for this watch, only Bluetooth. Once you download the Garmon app, you’re good to go to start tracking your work outs and activities. Fortunately, this watch has an outstanding battery life!
