Best I can tell it estimates calorie burn based on your BMI (when you enter your height & weight in Garmin Connect) and your activity level. I use mine along with the My Fitness Pal app as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This model does not measure HR
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This does not have an HR monitor that is sold separately or with the newer VivoSmartHR. A wrist HR monitor uses an lid light to see your heart rate through movement. Calories burned are based on how much movement you have made.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wish it did monitor through your wrist, but the second gen vivosmart does. It does calories based on the information you put in about your body measurements, and how much activity you have been doing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.vivismart needs an additional piece of equipment to monitor heart rate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It doesn't have a built-in heart rate monitor, so more of an estimate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not sure but I believe it is through the wrist since lite activity shows calories being tracked.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are options for sale that do come with a heart monitor. Mine does not. I do know when you sync it up to the app there is a calorie section and you can input all of your caloric intake like what you eat and how much and it will calculate it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this does not monitor heart rate. It is capable of monitoring heart rate with a heart rate band paired to it, which is sold separately and a major inconvenience compared to other smart bands which take the heart rate at the wrist. To calculate calories burned you have to sign up for a Garmin fitness account online, answering questions such as age, weight, gender, activity level and so on. Garmin then uses an algorithm to make an approximation of calories burned. It's really just a cool looking step counter that can get notifications from your phone and control your media player. I returned mine solely because it cannot get HR readings and the information was misleading, making it seem like you could without buying and wearing additional equipment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You have to input everything you eat and drink. You have the option to choose from food and drinks that have already been submitted or create your own.
