The vivoactive 3 will allow you to accept a phone call directly on the watch, but you would use the phone in order to speak with the caller. The watch allows you to accept or decline the phone call on iOS and Android phones. If you are using an Android phone you would be able to respond to a text message with some pre-loaded responses. To use these features the phone and vivoactive 3 have to be connected with one another.

You can decline calls from the watch but, you can't actually answer like you can with the Samsung gear watches. As for text messages, you can respond to them with preset replies that you can setup. No onscreen keyboard or voices replies are available.
