A:AnswerHi Penny - Thanks for considering GE! Over-the-range microwaves cannot be installed in a cabinet or cut-out space where the bottom is covered. Also, these models cannot be used on a counter or shelf. The underside is not flat and would not provide a stable surface. Additionally, there can be a heat issue, especially if the exhaust vent fan or surface lights under the unit were accidentally turned on. It can be installed under a cabinet, even if there is not a range or cooktop underneath; however, the height clearances must still be met. Over- the-range models must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. A:AnswerI purchased a 2023 JVM3160DFBB (version JVM3160DF9BB) to replace a 2014 JVM3160DFBB (JVM3160DF2BB). The bracket is different (only one horizontal bracket as opposed to a 3-sided bracket with the earlier version). And the newer version only uses two mounting bolts at the top instead of three. A new hole will need to be drilled for one of the upper mounting bolts. The new bracket has two bottom tabs instead of 4, but the old bracket appears reusable after bending down the two interior tabs.
