Hi Beau: We also have a tile back splash but I was replacing an existing microwave. The installation instructions should give you direction on this as to what size space you need to allow for but there should be some allowance for the depth. The width of the hole is less forgiving because there is a minimum amount of space required but you can check the install instructions to see what these are: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-specs/JVM7195SKSS/install My other advice is to have a good masonry bit, wood bit and a stud finder on hand. Even though I was just replacing another GE microwave, the mounting bracket for the new one was different and required that I drilled new holes through the tile. The first bit I used was worn and took forever on the first two holes and then I found my better one and it zipped right through. Overall, my installation went pretty smoothly and I had mine installed inside of any hour. Hope this helps and good luck.
