“Current 3yo GE unit makes a loud humming noise and will not heat. In my research I have determined its possibly the magnetron or a fuse by the door latch. Would you advise to repair or replace whole unit? Don't want to have to deal with this ongoing.”

Ours did the same thing. We opted to replace the microwave, as repairing the magnetron wouldn't have been worth the cost. We got a great deal on a replacement at Best Buy. Ours was less than 7 years old.
